What we cover
We report on Cedar Key and Levy County first, and on the wider Nature Coast and Florida where those stories reach this part of the state. Our recurring subjects are:
- Cedar Key - The island city, its working waterfront, the refuge and its people.
- Levy County - Chiefland, Williston, Bronson, Yankeetown, Inglis and the county seat.
- Florida - The Nature Coast, north central Florida and the statewide decisions, storms and agencies that reach this shore.
- Business - Aquaculture, fishing, tourism and local trade.
- US News - Federal decisions, filings and data that land on this coast.
What we do not cover
We do not report on crime. We do not publish arrest stories, name suspects, run booking photographs, or cover criminal court proceedings. An arrest is not a conviction, and a news page naming someone who is never convicted can follow them for years. We would rather leave that ground to others than do it badly.
How we work
Our reporting is built from primary sources - meeting agendas and minutes, official notices, public records, and National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center data. Where we learn of a story from a press release or another outlet, we treat it as a lead and go back to the original source before we write.
We do not republish press releases or wire copy as articles, and we do not rewrite other publications' reporting. Where a story rests on a document or a dataset, we link it.
Some of our reporting is produced with the assistance of AI tools. Every story is reviewed by a human editor before it is published, and every story carries its sources. We publish under the name of the publication rather than under individual bylines.
Corrections
If we have got something wrong, tell us at editor@cedarkeybeacon.com. We will correct it, and the article will say that it has been corrected and when.
