  • Bronson defeats Lady Sharks 52-27

    The Cedar Key Lady Sharks plays in Bronson on Monday evening. 

    They play at Branford on Friday, Dec. 6, and at Hilliard on Saturday, Dec. 7. 

  • Great Suwannee River Clean-up...

    The Great Suwannee River Clean-up, initiated and coordinated by Current Problems Executive Director Fritzi Olson, is nearing the end of the historic river and the 2013 clean-up.  The last 20 miles will be tackled by the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge, the Friends of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuges and all the volunteers they can muster Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Gag grouper recreational harvest...

    Gag grouper will close for recreational harvest in most Gulf of Mexico state waters Dec. 4, with the last day of harvest being Dec. 3. All Gulf federal waters will close Dec. 3, with the last day of harvest being Dec. 2.

  • Free Family Hunts announced

    The Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge is offering a free Family Hunt Dec. 14 - 22.  This is a unique opportunity for youth to hunt along with an adult mentor. The adult and up to two youths under 16 can hunt the refuge together with the free Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge permit. It can be obtained on line at www.fws.gov/lowersuwannee by clicking on “Hunting”, then click “Virtual Hunt Brochure." Or, call the refuge at 352/493-0238.

  • Venting tool requirement removed...

    Soon Florida anglers will no longer be required to have and use a venting tool when fishing for reef fish in Gulf of Mexico state waters.

  • Luke Corbitt fishing tournament

    The 2nd annual Luke Corbitt memorial fishing tournament benefiting  the Children's Table will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Waccasassa boat ramp.

    There's a $25 registration fee. Registration starts at 6 a.m. at the boat ramp.

    There will be cash prizes for biggest red, biggest trout, biggest combo and most unique fish caught. There will also be free barbeque and door prizes.

  • Rule change proposed for wild...

    For the 2014-2015 hunting season, the FWC is proposing greater flexibility for harvesting wild turkeys on private lands by removing the daily bag limit of one. 

    The season bag limit of two turkeys would remain in effect. To review and comment on the full proposal, visit the Proposed Rule Changes website at: www.myfwc.com/about/rules-regulations/changes/hunting/.

    Comments will be received until 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7.

  • Snapper season opens Oct. 1

    The recreational harvest of red snapper will open Tuesday, Oct. 1, in state and federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico. In state waters the season will remain open through Oct. 21, closing on Oct. 22. In federal waters the season will be open through Oct. 14, closing on Oct. 15.
