• LARC sale a success

The staff, clients and Board of the Levy Association for Retarded Citizens wants to thank everyone who stopped by the Thrift Store ‘Clean Sweep Sale’ on Saturday.  Many shoppers went out the door with smiles on their faces and bags of bargain buys in their hands!  We also want to thank Mrs. Thelma McCain and her family for providing the fish fry which was a great success. The promotion of our event by the Chiefland Citizen brought many of our friends and neighbors to our door which we appreciate very much.

  • Buckeye clears the air

Chad Hanson’s recent letter to the editor mischaracterized emerging plans to improve the Fenholloway River in Taylor County and nearby Gulf waters.

  • Time for some clarification

TAXPAYERS!  It is time for a little clarification to the public and public officials.

  • Best Fouth of July ever!!!

I wanted to write and tell everyone how very proud I am of Cedar Key!
I grew up in Cedar Key, so I know the people to be kind and caring. But living in a big city, you almost forget how good people can be and how living in a small city has its advantages.
I am the proud parent of a Navy Seabee, Ryne S Goode, who was currently deployed during the 4th of July. Imagine my surprise when I found out that, upon entering Cedar Key, there were American flags with our current military men and women displayed on each flag!

  • Keep those pets cool

As temperatures repeatedly reach over ninety degrees, we need to take some extra precautions with our furry friends. When leaving an animal outdoors, take the time to make sure there is plenty of shade and water available. An open shelter that provides cover and lets wind blow through is suggested. It's nice to provide drinking water in the shelter, too, though it's not absolutely necessary.

  • Voices needed to protect sea grasses

With all the threats recently to the environment coming from all angles, one that is largely under the radar is the imminent decision to allow the Buckeye Pulp Mill in Perry to pipe its nasty effluent (i.e., industrial wastewater) to the mouth of the Fenholloway River smack dab in Apalachee Bay of Florida’s Big Bend.

  • Sierra Club opposes garbage burners

The Suwannee/ St. Johns Sierra Club opposes any new waste-to-energy facilities in the North Central Florida region. We are a conservation group and strongly support conservation of energy and natural resources.  Not fuel burning facilities.

  • JennieFest a Success

  • Lions grateful for support

The Cedar Key Lions Club would like to thank Mr. Bryan Skarupski and the Cedar Key Market for their whole-hearted support of this community’s efforts to raise money to support Ms. Jennie Pinto, in her time of need.

  • Disappointed in Tallahassee

    Dear Editor,

On receiving news of the three Veterans being denied by the Tallahassee politicians, I am not really surprised.

I have been actively crusading (for) recognition for Lance Cpl. Buessing - for what seems like years. I was VFW Commander when Lance Cpl. Buessing's funeral was in Cedar Key.

The question I leave with you, (is) from my heart. What if young Brian would have dragged his feet the way Tallahassee is dragging theirs?
