Grant helps CKS purchase new microscopes

High school science students at Cedar Key School stepped into the 21st century on Friday, thanks to a generous grant from the Levy County Schools Foundation.

The Foundation, through its Grants For Great Ideas program, awarded $2,717 to the CKS science department.

The grant made it possible for Mr. Raymond Powers to buy a classroom set of modern, LED rechargeable microscopes that can be digitally linked to each student's Chromebook laptop. Because these new scopes are cordless, students will be able to use them anywhere during their science labs, including in the marine lab outside the high school building.

On Sept. 29, students took their first looks into the microscopes, peering at some of the microorganisms that make up so much of our world. The ease with which these new scopes can be used will make them a frequently-used learning tool.
