Four Cedar Key residents apply for water board

Four Cedar Key residents have filed letters seeking appointment to to the Cedar Key Water & Sewer District Board.

They are asking to fill the vacancy created by Board Member Chris Cowart's election to the Levy County School Board. The District board is expected to choose Cowart's replacement at the district board meeting on Monday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m.

The applicants are:

• Software engineer Matt Chatowsky,

• Former Mayor Pat O'Neal,

• Clam farmer Chris Reynolds, and 

• Former CK Chamber President Tina Ryan of Ryan Management. 

The District charter only requires that the board member be a registered voter within the district. 

The board oversees a $3 million annual budget, which includes capital projects, such as establishing a desalination addition to the water system and replacing water and sewerage lines. It also sets the property tax millage for the district.
