‘Art and Soul’ to be featured in February

The Cedar Key Arts Center is hosting a show of mosaics in its Main Gallery and “Textiles 'Art and Soul' a Retrospective” by Sarah Westenberg  in its Members Art Gallery through Feb. 24. 

There is no charge to visit the galleries at 457 2nd St., Cedar Key.


Library to sell Valentine flowers

Friends of the Cedar Key Library will be selling live Valentine flowers on  Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Jiffy Store on 2nd Street, near the post office.

Flowers will cost $15 a bunch or $25 for two bunches. All proceeds will go to support the Cedar Key Library.


Lions Valentine’s Dinner/Dance

The annual Lions Club Bring Your Valentine Dinner/Dance, will be held Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Cedar Key Community Center.

The event will feature a live band with dinner catered by The Island Room Restaurant. Tickets are $25 per person.

The event will also feature a silent auction and the event begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are available from any Cedar Key Lions Club Members.



Friends to present musical duo

The Friends of the Cedar Key Library will be presenting Patchouli – an exciting musical duo performing a concert of contemporary folk songs and instrumental Spanish-style guitar. The event will be held at the Cedar Key Community Center, 6th and F Street, on Thursday, Feb. 21, with a social hour beginning at 5 p.m. followed by the concert at 6 p.m.

Meatloaf contest at Eagles

The Fraternal Order of Eagles is looking for the area's best meatloaf cook (and probably the recipe) at its Annual Meatloaf Cookoff on Feb. 23 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. 

There is a $5 per entry fee with the money going toward win, place and show awards. Entries must be brought in by 12:30 p.m. for judging at 1 p.m. 

For those not adventuresome enough to have their meatloaf challenged, you can pony up a $6 donation and have a meatloaf dinner with all the fixin's of mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, veggies, bread and dessert. 

Contestants can sign up at the Eagles club at Third and B Streets in Cedar Key.

FNCC to meet in Cedar Key

The annual meeting of Florida’s Nature Coast Conservancy (FNCC) will be held on Feb. 24, 1-4 p.m. in the courtyard of the Island Hotel, Cedar Key. The FNCC will provide grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, a variety of side dishes, soft drinks as well as beer and wine. The meeting is open to all members and anyone considering membership.

The FNCC is a charitable land trust whose goal is to maintain the natural wildness of our beautiful Gulf coast. The FNCC owns some land locally which it holds for the public in perpetuity and help maintain the railroad trestle trail in Cedar Key. The FNCC is actively seeking new members. Annual individual memberships are $15 and family memberships are $25. Anyone interested in learning more about becoming a member of FNCC should come to the annual meeting and/or go to the website.

Children’s Art Benefit

The Children’s Art Benefit Dinner, Raffle and Silent Auction will be held at the Cedar Key Community Center (6th and F St.) on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. Gourmet food will be provided by the Island Room Restaurant and there are wonderful items available for the raffle and silent auction.  All proceeds from this event will be used to sponsor art programs for the children of Cedar Key who have no art teacher in their school. Tickets ($25 per person) are available at the CK Welcome Center or from CK Art Center Board Members. Come join the fun and support a great cause.



FFA caladium sale

Save room in your flower gardens for beautiful and colorful caladiums.

The Cedar Key FFA will be selling caladiums during the first weeks of March. The fundraiser will help support projects around the school, including the gardens and greenhouse. Ultimately, this will help fight hunger in the community as we continue to raise fresh vegetables.

The FFA is working to increase its vegetable  donations to the Cedar Key Food Pantry.

Poets to hold annual reading

The Cedar Key Poets will give their annual reading Thursday, March 7, at 5 p.m.  Their new 2013 chapbook, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be on sale. Refreshments will be served.  All are welcome.

Old Families reunion

The Cedar Key Old Families Reunion, will be held March 9, at the Cedar Key Community Center. Bring a covered dish and enjoy reunion with friends and family. The Community Center will be open by 10 a.m. and the reunion goes on until around 2 p.m.  Welcome and dinner begin at noon. For more information, contact Brenda at 352-543-5508.

‘Paint Out’, auction set

Cedar Key Arts Center will be hosting “Paint Out” on Monday, March 23, from 1-5 p.m. with an auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Arts Center. Bidders are encouraged to preview works in progress. 

Watch a local artist create a work of art in an afternoon, various mediums will be on display. 

At 5:30 p.m. an auction of the newly created work will be held upstairs at the Arts Center.
