Please consider helping the Cedar Key School PTO with the updating in and around the CKS gymnasium.

So far, donations and grants have covered the costs of replacing the windows and installing air conditioning. The next step is to refurbish the tennis court next to the school gym.

Over the past several weeks, CKS, the PTO, and community members have been meeting on how to best refurbish the two courts so that they will be used regularly. The goal is to create a multi-purpose center that will allow Cedar Key students and residents to participate in a variety of different games and activities, such as: basketball, tennis, pickleball, volleyball, badminton, shuffleboard, hopscotch, four-square, soccer, field hockey, and more. The project will create more choices for outdoor activities and with more options comes more student and community participation in outdoor activities, leading to longer, healthier lives.

A project of this magnitude is expensive because it requires equipment, surface paint, construction materials, and installation of new equipment. Cedar Key School has already purchased two adjustable outdoor basketball goals and a removable versa-net system that accommodates tennis, volleyball, badminton and pickleball. However, there are still needs to be met.

During their June 6 meeting, the committee determined there was a need to fundraise in order to cover the costs of Phase I of the multi-stage project. Phase I will prepare the surface to be painted, install new basketball and tennis equipment and line and stripe the court for a variety of activities.

The committee is inviting everyone to help them turn this vision into a reality with three levels of supporters, including: Caulkers Club--$20; Galloneers Club--$50; and the $100 Club--$100.

There are no administrative costs, so all donations go directly to the completion of an outdoor multi-purpose center.

Donations for the multi-purpose center should be made out to Cedar Key School PTO and sent directly to: Cedar Key School 951 Whiddon Avenue Cedar Key, FL 32625 in care of Coach John Miller.
