  • Chalk one up for Sharks

If moral victories exist, chalk one up for Cedar Key in spite of a 65-46 home loss against Chiefland on Tuesday.

After an 0-9 start and a winless 2009-10 campaign, the young Sharks could have easily swam far away from the shores of Cedar Key, and into the secluded deep of the Gulf. But thanks to a loyal fanbase and the never-give-up hustle of its players, 1A Cedar Key was able to give the 2A Indians more than it bargained before while achieving a team goal in the process.

  • Thanks for good weather, good...

Well the weather is good. The fish are biting great, but the phones have slowed way down. Families get pretty busy this time of year and fishing charters are kinda last on the list.

  • Fishing with Capt'n Danny...

    Everyone, the phrase for
    the week is "Backcountry
    Bonanza." I have been wearin'
it out, cause this is my second
    most favorite fishing season.
I love to fish cooling temperatures.
    This pre-winter
period of time is great for
    those adventurous anglers that
aren't scared to dent a prop
    blade.
    Getting back to those
    honey holes can make that
happen for ya'. This time of
the year the trout and redfish

  • Fishing Report: Fish of a...

Hey everyone. Sorry if ya' missed having a report
last week. With the festival in town I didn't do much
fishin' and that moon phase kinda stunk.
This week is a new look at fishing reports and
    fishing as a sport.
    It's a look at the
    sport from different
    angles and views.
    Some folks will
    agree and some
    may take it the
    wrong way. For
those that take it the wrong way — ya' shouldn't
cause it's simply different strokes for different folks

  • Fishing with Capt'n Danny...

Well my goodness I hate to beat the dead horse, but this weather is awesome!
I fished four days last week and every day was one to remember. I made my pro redfish circuit debut last Saturday up a rocks toss away from the Georgia border and the St. Mary's River in a town called Fernandina Beach.
It is a very small, very classy town. It has it own little unique charm like our own. People were nice and all the old buildings with new age businesses were cool. We had dinner in a small, two-story Victorian-style building that served Italian and it was good!!!

  • Fishing: Ready for the red fish

OK! Holy cow! Our redfishing is good right now.
It's the fall, the water's cooling a little, the spawners are doing their thing, and me and my customers love it.
I had few new groups this week which is always good. I fished a really nice couple from out at the Cedar Key RV grounds. They were from Mississippi. First time ever visiting Cedar Key.

  • Health issues prompt coach to...

One of Chiefland High School's most beloved coaches has officially resigned from his position. Wayne Weatherford stepped down from his post as softball coach last Tuesday, citing health issues. "Maybe it's just a good time to step down," Weatherford said.

  • Bowers has busy week with...

    Well, that didn’t last long.

Chiefland High School graduate and Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Cedrick Bowers was demoted to Triple A last week to make room for starter Dallas Braden.

But last Sunday, only a few days after he was shipped down, he was recalled to the A’s roster and sent back to the bullpen.

Bowers was called back up because Oakland placed starting pitcher Ben Sheets on the disabled list with a strained right elbow.

Bowers reported to Sacramento to work on his approach against left-handed hitters.

  • Fishing with Capt. Danny Allen:...

Hey everyone! Hope y’all are all finding a way to stay cool or at least comfortable in this heat.

It’s bad hot when you leave some fish that's biting just so you can get the boat on a plane to create wind so you can cool down. I haven't had to do that lately but have before went on a 10 minute island hopper excursion southern salt style just to cool down.
