  • Softball can't recover...

    Sharks middle school softball got off to a rocky start against Hernando Christian Academy and never recovered, falling 12-1 in five innings against the Lady Lions.

    Pitcher Miranda Haire struck out HCA's first batter, but a cascade of errors allowed the next six batters to get on and score, putting the Sharks in a deep hole at the beginning of the game.

    Cedar Key struggled on offense, too, going down in order until the fourth inning, when Jade Watson singled, and then stole her way all the way home. Hers was the Sharks' lone score on the night.

  • Sharks' strong season cut...

    In the first round of the District 6 1A tournament, Meadowbrook brought their "A" game, and emerged the 64-43 winner over Cedar Key.

    "We didn't come out the way we wanted; we didn't execute our game plan," said Sharks' head coach Aaron Haldeman after the game.

  • Varsity girls eliminated in...

    It was that close.

    A rough start off the tip, any one of a dozen little things, and they might have had them.

    Cedar Key varsity girls got a dream date in the district tournament - a matchup with three-seed Seven Rivers to try to avenge their recent one-point loss.

    It was not to be. After getting down 19-6 in the first quarter, the Lady Sharks made an amazing comeback but just couldn't get over the hump, succumbing in the end by 34-29, after coming as close as 31-29.

  • Sharks bruise Bulldogs in Senior...

    Cedar Key varsity boys hosted Bell for their Senior Night, then went over and above the call of duty to make sure the visitors didn't spoil their special night, winning 51-46. The Sharks had lost to the Bulldogs at Bell earlier in the season, and did not want a repeat of that unhappy day.

  • Boys work on chemistry as...

    Cedar Key boys played one of their best quarters of the season in a 71-36 loss to Seven Rivers Friday.

    "We got beaten up, but at least you knew we were there," said head coach Aaron Haldeman.

    For much of the game, Seven Rivers played the dominant game for which they are well known, outscoring the Sharks by an average of 10 points a quarter. Starting in the second quarter, however, Cedar Key held them to 12-5 on the period, getting ready for a third quarter explosion that saw Cedar Key nearly match their host, scoring 17 points to Seven Rivers' 21 in those eight minutes.

  • Girls to get another crack at...

    It was a heartbreaking loss Friday at host Seven Rivers Christian, when the Lady Sharks led until the last seconds before losing 37-36. Head Coach Chris Cowart and his team feared the loss would be enough to knock them down from the fifth seed in the district tournament, denying them the opportunity to take on a beatable Seven Rivers team and perhaps advance to the semifinal.

  • Good week for Shark basketball

    JV girls split two

    The Middle School Girl's Basketball teams scored a decisive 21-13 win against Creekside Christian, this past Tuesday, Jan. 14. The leading scorers were Savannah Beckham, with three two-pointers and one foul shot, and Molly Gordon with three two-pointers. Other scorers were Camryn Lumley, Bianca Spraggs, and Meikala Hunter.

  • Girls look good at Branford...

    Lady Sharks made the most out of the long road trips as they went up to Branford Tournament and played very well. The girls lost both matches, 44-26 to Branford and 46-34 to Bronson, but both finals were a major improvement over prior meetings.

    "Cedar Key's gotten so much better since the last time we played them," said Bronson head coach Greg Hamilton.

    "You can really tell they're putting in the work."

  • Girls battle in brawling loss to...

    Lady Sharks play to win every night, even when totally overwhelmed. A 51-15 loss to Hernando Christian Academy didn't start out like a loss when Cedar Key girls fought the Hernando Christian reserve players to a standstill, forcing an 8-8 tie in the first quarter.

    HCA head coach Jim Bragg sent in the starters as the second quarter began, but they, too, struggled against the hungry Lady Sharks.
