  • ‘Lucky boat’ pays off in reds

Hey everyone, I hope everybody was able to hold down the forts with all this wind we’ve had. It has put a major damper on my fishing. Also, put a major push on the tides — we really had some good low tides this week. Good for airboaters, clammers and oystermen — all the above jobs are easier with less water. Well for the most part,  I guess, without getting too technical.

  • Capt’n Danny on leave

Capt’n Danny Allen’s fishing report is on military leave as the Allen Family spends time with his daughter who is home recuperating from serving her country.

The Cedar Key Beacon staff thanks her for her service and her family’s sacrifice.

  • Fishing can be tricky this time of the year

Happy Turkey Day everyone — what a great holiday. Seems that this time of the year the woods are full of hunters, and the water is full of fishermen. And stories about big bucks and  rumors all over town.

  • FWC ups limit on red drum

Recreational anglers targeting red drum in northern Florida can soon take home more of the popular fish, thanks to a change approved Nov. 16 by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

  • Sour attitude creeps in on constant wind

Wind, wind, and, oh yeah, more wind. That's the report for the week.

It seems that the wind has just decided it would blow every day. Y'all have to excuse my sourness, but it’s kinda’ cramping my style a bit.

And the grouper guys, man, hey let's open the season for a month or so. And what happens almost the entire time is 20 to 25 knot winds. I'm sure the beloved protected goliath grouper will keep the grouper catching covered for the offshore guys—until they get a chance to get out.

    Ok, I'm done crying.

  • November brings some pretty cool fishing

Happy November everyone. It’s the kickoff month for all the family holiday gatherings and some pretty cool fishing.

  • It’s ‘red October’ for the fishin’ this month

Well, hello again, folks. Due to gale force winds and lots of rain over the last few weeks, we didn't do much fishing. So last week when it became time to think of something to report or chat about for the column.

Well let's just say for a man like me I was a li’l frustrated and was having a problem thinking of anything nice to say or write.

But hopefully we are done with that li’l cycle for now at least so we can enjoy some of Cedar Keys great fall fishing.
