  • Fishin’ with Capt. Danny

Li’l Burt with his first ever redfish while out with AS Charters. The Pauls group with a Cedar Key Slam — a keeper redfish, a keeper trout, and a keeper flounder. All were caught fishing creeks and channels with live shrimp.

  • Cold air could improve fishing

Happy holidays to all - small and big. Meet us here in Cedar Key so we can celebrate and do a jig.
Ok, now that I have that out of my system, let’s talk cold front fishing. This is what we have been asking for in the last few weeks. Our fishing has been scattered but good.
A shot of cold air will drop the water temps and school up our fish. It will move them into deeper holes and pockets of water. This is a very good thing if you know where some good holes are.

  • New limits for red grouper in Gulf

The recreational red grouper bag limit in Gulf of Mexico state waters (excluding Monroe County) will increase Dec. 30 from two to four fish, followed by the Jan. 1 season closure of shallow-water grouper in Atlantic state waters.
The red grouper bag limit increase is one of several fishery management changes made at the November Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) meeting in Key Largo.

  • Deer provide show for anglers

    Hello, Hello, Hello. Merry Christmas.
Ha ha, okay, maybe I can get some fake laughs for that. Anyways not a big o’ bunch to talk about this week. Not much guiding going on for me.
I did make a fish camp trip to the north with my oldest son Daniel. We had a big time and ate like champs. But the cool, big news is something new happened to me that has never of all my days happened.
We were catching fish while having deer walking within casting range of our boat in a 2 to 3 foot shallow flat.

  • ‘Lucky boat’ pays off in reds

Hey everyone, I hope everybody was able to hold down the forts with all this wind we’ve had. It has put a major damper on my fishing. Also, put a major push on the tides — we really had some good low tides this week. Good for airboaters, clammers and oystermen — all the above jobs are easier with less water. Well for the most part,  I guess, without getting too technical.

  • Capt’n Danny on leave

Capt’n Danny Allen’s fishing report is on military leave as the Allen Family spends time with his daughter who is home recuperating from serving her country.

The Cedar Key Beacon staff thanks her for her service and her family’s sacrifice.

  • Fishing can be tricky this time of the year

Happy Turkey Day everyone — what a great holiday. Seems that this time of the year the woods are full of hunters, and the water is full of fishermen. And stories about big bucks and  rumors all over town.
