    Hey everyone. I hope all is well and you’re getting a chance to soak up some summer sun in February. These days are perfect in my mind, because I like cold winters. As you’ ve heard me preach about the need for cold fronts is one reason. But the other is, folks, it’s hot plenty of months and a little cold weather never hurt no one. Not to mention, it’s great for the gas mileage and house electric bill.

    More than 50 people showed up recently to take part in a discussion at a Lake City meeting dealing with new water rules aimed at keeping Florida’s water clean, though some in attendance had doubts about how effective the rules ultimately will be.

  • Governor to consider springs restoration money

    Millions of dollars could be funneled toward springs protection and restoration projects in the state if approved by the governor later this year.

    Anne Shortelle, executive director of the Suwannee River Water Management District, said in a meeting last week that SRWMD alone had submitted about $15 million worth of proposals for springs projects upon a recent request by Gov. Rick Scott.

    The projects, tentative at this point, will be presented as a first-ever line item for springs restoration in the governor’s budget.

  • A bad day fishing in Cedar Key is better than a good day at work

    When friends from several cities want to get together and have fun, there’s nothing better than a day spent fishing with a Cedar Key charter guide. And you get to take dinner home too. This group went out with Jim Keith and Jimbo Keith and came home with their limit. They also had to practice their “catch and release” technique with the other fish they hooked.

  • Windblown fish

    Capt’n. Danny Allen is taking this week off to do a little fishing. He got some time to go out last week with Mr. Ron of Colorado, pictured. The Capt’n. and Mr. Ron caught 15 knots of wind out of the Northeast with no water clarity. But, hey, they killed it for four hours, and boated eight reds and eight legal trout. These two specklers were 21.5 inches and another four were 19.75 inches. 

    It was a heck of a day for the conditions, said Capt’n Danny. Good work Ron...

    To celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week 2012, the Lower Suwannee NWR had several events throughout the week.  The celebratory ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge classroom was anticlimactic compared to the exciting events for the remainder of the day.
