  • A charity organization dedicated to keeping foster children from the same family together is looking for donations.

  • The Cedar Key Art Center will once again sponsor a Benefit Dinner, with a raffle and silent auction for the 2013 Cedar Key Children’s Art Program. This gala event will be held at the Cedar Key Community Center on Thursday, Feb. 28. There will be a social and silent auction beginning at 6 p.m. with dinner and raffle beginning at 7 p.m.  This gourmet feast will be provided by Cedar Key’s Island Room Restaurant.

  • The early sun that beamed into Chick Schwartz’ studio seemed to wake things up.

  • Pre-school Story-time will be held at area libraries during the month of January.

  • Seahorse Key Marine Laboratory: who we are, what we do, and what is in it for you!

  • The public is invited for a fun, family movie at the library. All events are free and everyone young and old is invited to attend.

Have you seen the group of our neighbors and friends who have been so compelled by the site that they have chosen to be its caretakers?

  • The Cedar Key Art Center announced it would be offering two dynamic shows this month. “Florida's Eden: Vision for the Region” in the Main Gallery and “Bev Ringenberg: Contemporary Fused Glass” in the main art gallery.  The shows run through Dec. 30.

  • The Annual Cedar Key Christmas Boat Parade – and the subsequent arrival of Santa Clam – will be held Dec. 15  with a rain date of Dec. 16.

  • Visit Florida Welcome Center service staff employees visited Levy County and Cedar Key as part of a familiarization tour on Nov.1-2.

  • Seven women gathered Friday at the Cedar Key Arts Center to learn about traditional Florida pine needle basket making from instructor Diane Moore, of Lake Helen.

  • To celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week 2012, the Lower Suwannee NWR had several events throughout the week.  The celebratory ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge classroom was anticlimactic compared to the exciting events for the remainder of the day.

  • Cedar Key was abuzz this past weekend as thousands of visitors flooded the island for its 43rd Annual Seafood Festival. Throngs of visitors dined on various seafood delicacies, enjoyed the town’s colorful, lighthearted parade, visited the Seahorse Key light station and perused the many craft-filled tents lining the street.   • Tuesday, Oct. 16, is the deadline for work to be delivered to the Cedar Key Arts Center on Second Street for its upcoming show. The open media show will be the first community wide event of the season. Any media is accepted and prizes will be awarded.
