Today's Opinions

  • Fishing Lines? Muddy water? Give fish something to sniff

I get a lot of fishing lures given to me to "try out." Some of them are so far out I have to force myself to tie them on and give them a few feeble casts.

About two years ago someone gave me a big bag of soft plastic grubs that were cream colored with a chartreuse flipper tail. To top it off, they smelled like garlic. They were kind of nice looking but the fish that year had no interest in them whatsoever. So I put them in the "special" drawer of my filing cabinet and pretty much forgot about them.

Yes, I am a pack rat of sorts...so what?

  • True Faith: Who will take your place?

"I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another." (Romans 15:14 NIV)

  • Trouble in Cedar Key: It looks like it just might happen

"It looks like it might just happen." Those are Anne's words a few days back. We were walking around Dock Street at sunup, Anne looking for her perfect photo, that special pose, that candid moment to catch in time on her camera. She's good with the camera, at capturing that single moment.

  • Abort-Retry-Fail: Safeguarding you data

I have been telling people for years that the most important thing you can do with your computer is to back up your data. You don't necessarily need to back up everything on your hard drive, but you need to make frequent and regular backups of the data that you create.

  • Reflections: Thinking out loud

A friend and I were talking. Between us we have the world figured out... Well, almost.

We got to musing on the economy and how things are and likely will be in the near future. Housing is all but at a standstill, and fuel prices are still going up. What we figure, is things are not going to get better anytime soon.

Now I don't want to sound like doomsday, but we really are not in good shape in this country right now. Not only that, it's going to take a while to get back to somewhere normal again.

  • Fishing Lines: Fishing pretty good, when fish can see

I remember when I was a kid, we had a great product called Nestlé Quik. You took plain milk and added one or two spoonfuls (or three) of this powder to your milk and you instantly had chocolate milk. The mix was great.

Now you are saying to yourself, "Has this guy finally flipped his lid? I knew those middle school kids would eventually drive him crazy."

  • Fishing Lines: Cold snap, wind combine to make trout touchy

Cold has once again pushed the water temps down below the 70 degree mark, and is throwing the trout bite into a tailspin.

Add to the equation the wind-blown water so dirty that you can't see an inch deep and it all adds up to some challenging fishing.

My thinking is to use bright colors that make lots of noise. It is going to take a few days of steady weather for things to return to normal.

  • Reflections: Politics as usual: NOT!

Well, I don't have to give any personal reasons but I think we are left holding the political bag with the Presidential candidates. Actually we really don't have any.

What I'd like to see happen is a revamp of the whole primary mess. Throw those candidates out and let's start over. At least we would have a chance at something worthwhile.

Right now as far as I'm concerned, we don't have any viable candidates.

We are in changing times as evidenced by our economy, and it is the past regime that has put us there. So, for sure most of us do not want more of the same.
