Today's Opinions

  • Our View: Jim Crow of another form

It was just a short time ago that an appeals court in Florida ruled that the Sunshine clause in the state Constitution did not require councils and commissions of counties and municipalities to take public comment during meetings that were required to be open to the public.

The Legislature stepped in and in 2013 told local governing bodies they had to take public comment and to formulate a policy to address the issue.

  • Climate change should not be a political issue
  • Don't forget to stay hydrated on the water

Hello fellow island and fishing folks. Today we are gonna talk about some serious situation that can and may happen while fishing in the summer in Cedar key or any other body of water.

As I started my trip at daylight last Saturday it was super hot as I started gathering bait I started to sweat immediately. There was no wind at all and which caused my skin to leak ALOT!

  • Nice weekend weather

Well Cedar Key folks and visitors ended up with quite a nice weekend of weather. The beach and park was busy and water was very busy Saturday lots of folks came in to visit for the day and enjoy mother nature as she was taking it easy on us for a change. We had a great bite most of the time due to a great incoming tide. Water temperatures stayed around 83 most of the days and that has helped tremendously.

  • Capt'n Danny survives rainy season

    Hi. Hi. Hello everybody!

Hope you are finding ways to cope with the rain; it's a little Mother Nature attitude it seems. Our water tables should be in good and the biggest thing it did was change our slow redfish bite into a good redfish bite.

We went from low- to mid-90s water temps to low- to mid-80s so that was enough to spark a chew in the flats something us guys in Cedar Key needed. We were a little beside ourselves for a month or so. But we are in heaven.

We have what Cedar Key is known for: Good times and great fishing.

  • Letter to the Editor

We would like to send out a "BIG THANK YOU" to everyone who came out and supported the cheerleaders. The fish fry was a huge success. It wouldn't  be possible without all the support from this community.

We raised enough for their cheer camp and almost enough for their uniforms.(We are still working on that.)

We served approximately 400 fish dinners; these girls worked really hard.

    Thank you.
