  • Cedar Key middle, high school teams take state titles

    Seventy-one teams in Florida attempted to earn a spot in the state finals this year in the FFA Aqua-culture CDE by taking a written exam about the many aspects of Florida aquaculture.
    Ten high school teams and 10 middle school teams earned the right to compete for the state title in Ruskin at the Tropical Aquaculture Lab.

  • Ron Black named Volunteer of the Tear

      Once again, after donating over 500 hours during the calendar year, Ron Black, volunteer caretaker of Shell Mound, is Volunteer of the Year at Lower Suwannee and Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuges for the third year in a row. You could say Black is a workaholic, because he can’t just kick-back and enjoy retirement.

  • Smithsonian to focus on Cedar Key

    In a few months, Cedar Key will be one of six cities in the state to host a traveling exhibit from the nation’s premier museum, the Smithsonian Institution.

    “The Way We Worked,” part of the Smithsonian’s “Museum on Main Street” program, will be in Cedar Key from September through October.

    “It’s just fabulous,” said Cedar Key Historical Society President Ken Young, adding that the historical society, in conjunction with other groups, has been trying to get the exhibit in the area for a couple of years.

The conditions haven’t changed much over the past few weeks – the water temps have risen to high 70s. But, the brown water is still here and not going anywhere soon.

    Friday, May 9, the bloodmobile will be back at CKS! Students must be 16 years old with a signed permission form to donate. The bloodmobile will be here from 9 a.m. to noon. Giving blood is the best way to help save lives, so come on down and donate.
