  • CRA update

    Roadwork

    Finish grading of the new road base has started along Hodges and Andrews Circle in preparation of asphalt paving later this month and February. Reconstruction has started on Gulf Boulevard and there will be one lane of traffic this month and next. Many of the side streets off Gulf Blvd. are being prepared for paving and will be paved in February.

  • Rusty pipes, garbage billing top agenda for CKWSD

    Rusty pipes and city garbage collection were the top items of discussion Monday night at the Cedar Key Water and Sewer District monthly meeting.

    CRA Director Greg Lang presented the CKWSD Board with a sample of 80-year-old pipe found last month under historic 2nd Street and offered possible solutions to address the issue.

  • New legislative office opens in Chiefland

    State Representative Leonard Bembry (D-Greenville) has announced the opening of a satellite office in House District 10.

    The district office will be located at 23 Southeast 2nd Avenue in Chiefland. It will be housed in the old train depot that has been restored. The office will be staffed with a full time district secretary who will assist constituents in Dixie, Levy, Alachua, and Columbia counties.

    Homecoming basketball games are:

    MS Girls: 4 p.m.

    MS Boys: 5 p.m.

    Varsity Girls 6 p.m.

    Varsity Boys 7:30 p.m.

    A student dance in the auditorium will follow immediately after the games. Concurrently, a party will be held in the gymnasium for all community members.

    Southern Standard Builders broke ground this week on the Goose Cove water main in what has been described as an historical milestone. The cooperative project among several government entities and agencies is the first of its kind in Cedar Key.

  • Insects, insecticides and growing vegetables you can eat

    I cannot, after much silence, think of when I lived without bugs and insects in my life. They are all over the planet! There must be one million bugs for every human on earth, perhaps more! They live under ground, in the trees and in the water as well. When there are no vegetables in your garden they attack. Something else, then, when you plant your garden they concentrate, attack and destroy.

  • City losing thousands in unpaid garbage debts

    Current and delinquent garbage collection bills were discussed by the Cedar Key City Commission last month. A variety of possible solutions were proposed including coupling the fee with property taxes so that landlords assume responsibility, contracting with a private collection agency, placement of liens on property and publishing the names of residents who owe money.

  • A personal manifestation?

    There are many wonderful opportunities that I have being a church pastor. One of these is that I occasionally get to hear many fine and creative excuses as to why whoever it is that I happen to be speaking to does not attend church. Mostly these are quite unsolicited. Folks find out that I am a pastor and just launch into one completely of their own. I have been a pastor for less than three years and I already have a formidable collection.   • Shark Soccer Team

    Both Shark soccer teams played this Saturday. The purple teams score against the orange Chiefland team was 3 to 6 with the Sharks losing. The scorer for the game was Jadah Donaldson. The game started out with the Sharks making the first goal of the game, ending the half with the score 2 to 3. The second half was just as disappointing ending with the 3 to 6 score.

    The Yellow Sharks team game was much closer but still ineffective.
