    It was a series of decisions by BP, Transocean and Halliburton that caused the April 20, 2010, Deepwater Horizon explosion, loss of 11 lives, and resulting oil spill according to a final investigative report released Wednesday.

  • Fundraiser for local family

    A fundraiser bake sale will be on Saturday, Sept. 17, to raise money for the family of local oysterman, Douglas Booth, who died unexpectedly.

    He left behind two young children and his wife, who also was his oystering partner.

  • Property Owners Beware

     Florida Statute requires: 

    “When property owners act as their own contractor, they must supervise the work being performed. Any person working on your building who is not licensed must be employed by you, which means that you must deduct F.I.C.A. and withholding tax and provide workers’ compensation for that employee.”

  • DBPR sweeps through town and nets contracting violators

    Acting on a tip about alleged unlicensed contracting, investigators from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation came to Cedar Key recently. When their work is completed, some violators could face criminal charges.

    According to James Patton, Regional Program Administrator for DBPR, on Friday, Sept. 2, investigators from the Gainesville branch office visited several construction job sites where unlicensed contracting was suspected. 

  • Budget workshops approach the end

    The City Commission and Community Redevelopment Agency are continuing the budget process and the end is in sight, with a meeting tonight at 6 p.m.  and the final meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 26.
