Don't count on the dogwood and redbud flowers just yet. Even though some of them are popping out, they won't last. Another freeze is scheduled for this week.

Every few years we manage to have one more March hard freeze in North Central Florida, just enough to kill off any blossoms that have formed on fruit trees and other flowering fauna. And, that's not to mention the vegetables that will be wilting unless they're covered. You planted your garden early this year, right? I did.

Sharks track and field tasted success at their inaugural home meet Monday, hosting Branford, Seven Rivers, St. John Lutheran and Bronson at the first Cedar Key Relays.

Branford was the overall winner, with the girls' team scoring 80 total points and boys' team scoring 84. Cedar Key girls were runners-up with 68 points, and Cedar Key boys placed third with 46 points.

Friday, March 21, there will be no school, so please use caution when traveling on SR24 and the streets of our wonderful little city, due to the children walking, riding bicycles, or playing near their respective homes. We never know when a loose ball will cross the street followed by an unsuspecting child, so please be fully aware during your travel time around the community. Always respect our older generation and children, as we love and appreciate all of them very much.

BRONSON - The storm clouds that were on the horizon are now here for the School Board of Levy County.

Financial officer Robert Clemons believes that with proper precautions, Levy will be able to survive the spring state budget cut storm.

The 2008-09 school year is another story.

With additional state funding cuts estimated at more than a half million dollars, Levy is preparing to make moves that could shave a big chunk of money.

These moves revealed at Tuesday's school board meeting would hopefully prevent faculty and other staff casualties.
