  • Thirty-two left unemployed by fire

    Thirty-two full and part-time employees of the Rusty Rim and Coconuts on Dock Street have been left unemployed by an early morning fire on Jan. 26.
    The fire, which damaged the second floor restaurant - the Rusty Rim - also resulted in damage to Coconuts when water to extinguish the flames flowed down to the first floor operation.

  • Cedar Key star party begins Monday

    The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve and Cedar Key Museum State Park will host the National Stars-n-Parks Programs on Monday, Feb. 20, Wednesday, Feb. 22 and Friday, Feb. 24.

    Knitting Club to resume
    The Kona Joe’s Knitting Club will resume, beginning Feb. 3.  The club meets every Friday at 4 p.m. on the deck of Kona Joe’s Island Cafe on SR 24 and 6th St.  It’s free and all knitters are welcome.

  • State, schools partner to get students into real world

    Greg Ira, the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Education Director, is a man with a mission.
    “We want to make sure the students get out,” he said during a visit Thursday to Cedar Key Scrub. “We’re taking the classroom out of the school.”

  • Workforce Connection to help staff laid off by fire

    Workers displaced by last week's fire at the Rusty Rim and Coconuts restaurants will be getting a helping hand when Workforce Connection brings its mobile unit to the Cedar Key Public Library on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Laura Byrnes, spokeswoman for CLM Workforce said, "It's staff supported and has satellite internet and you can do anything with job searching."

  • Lady Eagles survive Shark attack

    In a district game on Friday night in Bronson, the Lady Eagles defeated Cedar Key 60-28. Led by junior Shay Sherman’s 15 points and eigth grader Faith Heath’s 11 points, the Lady Eagles captured its fourth district win.
    Lauren Bartholemy led the Sharks with 14 points.
