  • It’s good to be green: Recycling program returning

    The Levy County recycling program is back in business and trailers are being distributed around the county this week.
    The county pulled its recycling trailers in mid-February after the state closed a work camp that supplied inmate labor for sorting and handling the recyclables at the county landfill.
    The county received its first work crew from Lowell Correctional Institute on Monday after an inspection by the prison officer in charge of the inmate work crew program at Lowell.

    The Lions Club of Cedar Key and the Cedar Key News are joining once again to sponsor Candidate Forums in advance of this year’s elections.
    While there are discussions under way regarding a forum in September for candidates in the November general election, the focus now is on elections that may be settled by the Aug. 14 primary.

    Tampa is be the headquarters for a thorough quarantine patrol, which the Marine Hospital Services has decided to inaugurate along the west coast of Florida from Key West to Cedar Key. The vessel BRATTON will be on station to intercept fishing vessels from Cuba to prevent the introduction of yellow fever into Florida.
