  • Captain's Log for the week of 4-21-16

Luck is a funny thing. Google says luck is success or failure apparently brought on by chance rather than through one’s actions. Well as for me I believe in luck. I have always felt lucky to have been born in America, raised by two loving parents who taught me hard work, empathy, dedication, patriotism, integrity, faithfulness, conservation and a million other important values. And luck has been with me most of my life, so you might ask, what is your point?

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has approved a measure to lower the recreational red drum daily bag limit in the northwest red drum management zone (Escambia County through Fred Howard Park near Pasco County) from two fish to one fish per person.

This change will go into effect Sunday, May 1. The daily bag limit is also one in the southwest management zone, which means after this change is effective, the daily bag limit will be one red drum per person, per day in all Gulf of Mexico state waters.

  • County will take dredge spoil

The City of Cedar Key will get a helping hand from Levy County with its clogged city marina boat channel, after all.

Earlier this year, Mayor Heath Davis asked the county to provide help in removing material that was blocking the channel, but the county deferred taking any action, instead sending a letter to the state Department of Transportation seeking their advice. The move was prompted by DOT's plans to replace the C Street/Dock Street bridge over the channel.
