The U.S. Postal Service will begin delivering TRIM — Truth in Millage — notices to Levy County property owners next week.

    And the news in those 48,776 notices might not be what some folks expect, Oz Barker, Levy County Property Appraiser said.

    But before picking up the telephone or heading to Barker's office in a lather, he would like you to sit down with the tax bill, read a letter he has written explaining the property tax notice and any changes.

Tropical Storm Claudette is located approximately 100 miles west-southwest of Levy County and is moving north-northwest at approximately 16 mph.

The Storm is a relatively small system, said Charlie Paxton of the National Weather Service-Ruskin. Cedar Key can expect only a half to one foot above normal tide, he said.

There is a 40 to 50 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms this afternoon for the Levy County coastal areas.

“All the rain is off shore right now,” Paxton said. “As for this afternoon, nothing is certain right now.”

The Levy County Commission has approved seeking a $121,000 federal stimulus grant to benefit the clammers and oystermen at Cedar Key.

Commissioner Lilly Rooks brought up the non-agenda item at the Commission meeting on Tuesday morning and the commissioners immediately agreed to take up the matter.

Rooks said she had received a letter from the Levy County Soil and Water Conservation Board the afternoon before saying the money is available and the grant application must be submitted by April 6.

Seahorse Landing Condominium Rentals is the first business in Cedar Key to receive an endorsement for Green Lodging from the Florida Department of Environment Protection.

Qualifying as a green business is not difficult, said Janet Blackwell. “It’s easier than you think - one step at a time, and once it’s implemented, it’s easy.”
