  • Sharing their wish lists

    Santa Clam pulled ashore at Cedar Key City Park on Saturday night as part of the Christmas in the Park festivities that included the lighted boat parade, a community potluck, tree lighting and Christmas carolling. 

    But the highlight of the evening that had the crowd lining up around the Pavilion was the arrival of Santa Clam in his "clam shack." 

  • Non-Fiction Book Bunch changes plans

    The Non-Fiction Book Bunch has cancelled its scheduled meeting for Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 1:30 in the Cedar Key Library upstairs room.

    The cancellation is due to the business of the season and conflicting schedules.  The group will meet again on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

  • Few tickets left for CK Arts Center benefit dinner dinner benefits children's art

    A dinner, raffle and auction to benefit the Cedar Key Arts Center Children and Teen’s Summer Art Program will be held on Thursday, Jan. 7, at 5:15 p.m. at Cedar Key Community Center

    A few tickets at $25 per person are left and can be purchased at the Cedar Keyhole anytime or at the CK Post Office on Saturday morning, Dec. 12 and 19.

    Join us for a enjoyable evening of yummy food from the Island Room, great music by Shade Tree, a chance to buy some art, plus fun and companionship.

  • Seahorse Key light station opens Dec. 19

    The Cedar Key Light Station on Seahorse Key is situated on the top of a steep hill looking out over the Gulf of Mexico with a view that is nothing short of breathtaking. The lighthouse is only open to the public a few times a year and Saturday, Dec. 19 is one of those days. The light station will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Visitors must provide their own transportation to the island, but tour boats are available at the city boat launch at Dock Street.

  • Artist of the Month

    The Artist of the Month at the Cedar Keyhole in Cedar Key is acrylic painter Judi Cain. Her exuberant paintings are difficult to miss as you enter the Keyhole.

    Primarily abstract, these paintings are energizing and extraordinarily colorful. Judi also paints in a realistic fashion and these paintings feature native birds, flowers and portraits. She has giclee prints and cards of many of her works, so affordability is never an issue.

  • Woman's Club market success

    Chalk up another successful venture for the Cedar Key Woman's Club. The Fall Market, always the Saturday after Thanksgiving, has been an annual event for the ladies of the CKWC — for several years.

  • Lions provide free early childhood vision screening

    Over the coming weeks and months, the Cedar Key Lions Club will be providing free early childhood vision screening at day care centers, kindergartens and preschools in Levy County to identify children up to 6 years old with undetected vision loss due to Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) and refractive errors.

    Ambylopia is easy to treat, but early detection before the age of 6 is vital, as correction must take place before the age of 6 while a child’s viual system is still developing.

  • Refuge hosts annual appreciation luncheon

    The Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge held its annual cooperators and partners lunch last Friday, Dec. 4 at the refuge.

    It’s an opportunity to get together with our partners and show appreciation for what they do throughout the year, refuge staff said.

    “We’re grateful for the support you all lend us in various partnerships,” Refuge Manager Andrew Gude said.

  • Festival offers chance to meet authors

    It has wars, humor, railroads, nostalgia, poems. Book lovers will find it all at the first Florida Authors and Books Festival to be held Saturday, Dec. 12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Conference Center at the Cedar Key RV Resort. Books make wonderful gifts and the books festival will provide you with a perfect opportunity to leisurely browse, speak with the authors, and have your purchases personalized with the author’s signature.

  • Vintage trailers visiting CK

    Southern Vintage Trailer Friends is holding a camper rally at Sunset Isle RV park from Dec. 10-13. There will be an open house to the public on Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

    For anyone wanting to view the trailers we are asking for non-perishable food items or a monetary donation to the local Food Pantry who will be on site to take your donation.

    There will be approximately 20 vintage campers and several vintage cars at this event.
