  • Everyone has a story to tell

    The Cedar Key Public Library will offer a free Oral History Workshop for anyone who is interested in learning how to preserve valuable family histories. The workshop will take place at the library on the afternoon of Saturday, June 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. There is no charge for the workshop, and supplies and equipment will be provided. Although pre-registration is not required, the library asks that those interested in attending call the library by June 26, in order that sufficient supplies are available.

    Each branch of the Levy County Public Library System will have a series of fun, free summer library programs this year. All the programs start at 10 a.m. and will last about an hour. Each program will include a presentation, a craft, a snack and take home goodies. All materials are provided by the library and the programs are open to children of all ages.

    Cedar Key Volunteer Fire & Rescue is once again making plans to honor local men and women who are currently serving in the military. The CKVFR had an overwhelming response from last year’s project and would like to make this an annual event.

  • 5 boaters rescued off Cedar Key

    ST. PETERSBURG. — Five people were rescued by the Coast Guard after the 32-foot boat they were aboard began taking on water 12 miles west of Cedar Key, Monday.

    A member aboard the boat contacted Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders at 1:31 p.m., via VHF-FM channel 16 radio reporting they had lost an engine, were taking on water and in need of assistance.

  • CK School honored for Outstanding Sportsmanship

    Cedar Key is the overall winner of the 2013 Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award for the 1A District of the Florida High School Athletic Association.

    The award honors schools whose athletic teams demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship during the 2012-2013 regular season and FHSAA State Series, according to an association press release.Twenty high schools and three middle schools received the prestigious award.

    Cedar Key was the section 1 winner for a Sportsmanship Award and edged out The Villages Charter for the Overall Award.
