Cedar Key airport runway gets mowed

Plans for the George T. Lewis Airport, a.k.a. Cedar Key airport, call for the runway to be paved in concrete. But that plan will have to wait.

The state Department of Transportation has agreed the asphalt runway needs to be replaced with a longer lasting concrete one.

But, the bridges on Gulf Boulevard at Lewis Pass and Daughtry Bayou will have to be replaced to carry the heavy truck loads of cement. Plans by the state DOT call for work to begin in 2016-2017.
