  • Farm Bureau poster contest seeking student artists

    Special to the Citizen
    Show off your artistic skills by entering a poster in the Florida Farm Bureau Youth Poster Contest. Each person may enter one poster based on the theme “Back Where I Come From” and agriculture.
    There are three different age divisions for competition: ages 4-6, ages 7-9, and ages 10-12 (all ages as of September 12, 2011).
    Posters will be on display at the Florida Farm Bureau 70th Annual Meeting, Oct. 6-8, 2011.
    Posters can be no larger than 14” x 22” and can’t be matted or framed.

    Teachers are planning for the students to be back in many ways. They are getting their rooms and materials ready; making instructional plans and schedules, based on assessment scores and student needs.

  • Police department gears up for the coming school year

    Cedar Key Police Chief Virgil Sandlin reported this week the breakdown for both local and state citations, for the month of July. 

    Local citations included: three for speeding, 14 for “Failure to pay launch pass,” 13 parking violations, five moving violations and three curfew violations (minors out after 11 p.m. without an adult).

  • School Board OKs lower millage

     Near the end of a meeting in which the School Board of Levy County approved, among other things, a tentative millage and budget for 2011-12, board member Cameron Asbell of Bronson offered up a cost-savings idea.
