    School Board member Beth Davis of Cedar Key, who is retiring at the end of her term on Nov. 20, was honored at Tuesday's board meeting for her 12 years of service. Superintendent Bob Hastings presented Davis with an engraved pen and pencil set during a pre-meeting breakfast.

  • Big changes in county schools principal lineup

    Nine of the district’s 12 public schools will see a new principal or vice principal for the 2012-2013 school year. The district will also be without an assistant superintendent. 

    Assistant superintendent Gina Tovine has left the county to take a similar job in Orange County schools. Because of a stretched budget, the district doesn’t plan to fill the position for the immediate future. 

  • Cedar Key FFA: Living the motto

    The National FFA organization has a motto that goes like this: “Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve.”
    The “learning to do” part of FFA happens in the classroom. It includes the lessons from books and videos, lectures, reading and writing assignments, sharing experiences etc.

  • Cedar Key Middle School FFA brings home state awards

    Cedar Key Middle School members returned from the State FFA Convention with a cache of trophies and awards.
    The State FFA Convention was held in Orlando.

  • CEDAR KEY FFA ‘Making an impact’

    The Cedar Key FFA chapter has been awarded $2,500 as part of the inaugural FFA: Food For All program.
    The nationwide program provides grant money to local FFA chapters to help support year-long-service-learning projects focused on developing and implementing sustainable hunger relief projects.
    The Cedar Key FFA chapter has been helping to fight hunger in several ways. First, the chapter raised food fish in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) and at the end of the school year, filleted the fish and donated them to the Cedar Key food pantry.
