The Levy County Schools Foundation will host its annual STARS Gala on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m., doors open at 5:30 p.m. at Chiefland Elementary School.
STARS — Students, Teachers, and Respected Supporters - Gala was formerly known as the Superintendent’s Gala and is the non-profit Foundation’s premier fundraising event.
When Candy Barber started working as a substitute in the Chiefland schools lunchroom she only wanted to have a job that allowed her to be home with her children, Royce and Janet, when they were not in school.
On Jan. 4 Barber, who estimates she has served or overseen the serving of over 5 million meals, will retire from her post as coordinator of food service for the county’s 13 schools. She is also president of the Florida School Nutrition Association.

Levy County’s four powerhouse FFA schools met last Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the First United Methodist Church in Williston to compete in the first level of the FFA leadership contests.
The contests were Prepared Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Public Speaking, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Creed Speaking and Parliamentary Procedure. These contests are considered by many as the most prestigious contests in FFA.
Cedar Key Cross Country season is officially over for both varsity and middle school. Thursday, Nov. 3, Districts were held at Oak Hall school, in Gainesville.
Most of you probably don’t take any teenage relationship too seriously. I don’t blame you; most people my age have a new significant other every month. There are some of us, however, who are able to maintain a long relationship while in high school. A lot of Cedar Key boys head straight for the military after graduation, some of them leaving behind their girlfriends. This is our story, the story of a military girlfriend.
