  • Etheridge takes a school break after 20 years

    School Board of Levy County member G. Frank Etheridge was honored during Tuesday's meeting, with board members presenting him with a plaque honoring his 20 years of service.
    Tuesday's meeting was Etheridge's final day meeting as a board member. He is retiring from the board at the end of his term. Etheridge, who represents Williston on the board, is also the president of Perkins State Bank in Williston.

         Cedar Key School’s 2011 full color yearbook is officially on sale now with personalization until Nov. 29. The book features 92 pages of student photos, sports and clubs.  Additionally there is a 16-page supplement that highlights news of the year so students can remember what was popular and record-breaking performances by sports figures, movies, songs.

  • Stuff the Bus helps students, teachers

    The drive to Stuff the Buss with school supplies for students will be taking advantage of tax-free weekend as the Levy County Schools Foundation and Morriston Baptist Church's Band of Brothers set up collection stations inside stores. The collection pens, pencils, erasers, colored pencils, paper, pocket folders, spiral notebooks, crayons, permanent markers, washable markers, highlighters, dry erase pens, rulers, index cards, Post-it notes, scissors, washable glue, glue sticks, Kleenex,  hand soap, sanitizer, binders and backpacks is an annual back to school ritual in L

  • Tarmac awards science scholarships to 2010 grads

     Tarmac America, in partnership with the Levy County Schools Foundation, awarded science scholarships to graduates from the Class of 2010 at four area high schools, selecting students who demonstrated a proficiency in math and science coursework. This is the third consecutive year that Tarmac has awarded $500 college scholarships to graduates from Levy County high schools.

     The College of Central Florida Levy Center recognized 14 students who completed the Certified Nursing Assistant program on Wednesday, June 23.

    n College of Central Florida offering computer courses

    The College of Central Florida Levy Center is offering two courses to help computer users keep their machines in top condition.

    First, the school is holding a Computer Repair and Troubleshooting course, scheduled for Aug. 6 and Aug. 13. Class time is slated to be 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn how to disassemble, configure and assemble the basic computer; and how to install the Windows Operating System. They also will learn about computer maintenance, upgrade and repair.

  • GED offers MORE for college

    The College of Central Florida's successful Adult Education Program, which serves about 750 students per year, wants to do more than bestow Florida High School diplomas and General Equivalency Diplomas to students.

    The program's seven educators at the Levy Center want to help graduates get something MORE — a successful entrance and graduation from college.
