The Levy County Schools Foundation will host its annual STARS Gala on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m., doors open at 5:30 p.m. at Chiefland Elementary School.   
STARS — Students, Teachers, and Respected Supporters - Gala was formerly known as the Superintendent’s Gala and is the non-profit Foundation’s premier fundraising event.  

The state Department of Education’s grades for high schools are out and it’s a mixed report for Levy County..
The report card:
• Bronson Middle/High School got a C, down from last year’s B
• Cedar Key High School got a C, down from last year’s A
• Chiefland got a B, down from last year’s A, and
• Williston High School got a B, up from a C.

Greg Ira, the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Education Director, is a man with a mission.
“We want to make sure the students get out,” he said during a visit Thursday to Cedar Key Scrub. “We’re taking the classroom out of the school.”

 Sarah Bartholemy, a freshman FFA member in Cedar Key placed first in the FFA District Creed Speaking Contest. Sarah advances to the State Finals in June in Orlando. The State Champion in this event will represent Florida in the National Creed Speaking Contest in October.  Good luck Sarah!
