  • Original singer-songwriters from Virginia, Nashville and Indiana will be coming to Cedar Key the weekend of Jan. 13-15 to help two local non-profit groups.
    Join in the fun as these award-winning musicians share their musical talents for a good cause.

  • Dale Henderson is the person who said “The Garden Club should do something about the Brazilian Pepper in Cedar Key”.
    She said it in 1998.
    The Cedar Key Garden Club and local citizens have been “doing something” about Brazilian Pepper ever since she made that remark. Henderson was given a Certificate of Appreciation and a “Thank You” card from Garden Club members at the Jan. 6 kick-off of the 2012 season.

  • The Cedar Key Historical Society will kick off the 2012 Monthly Coffee Program Series on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 10 a.m., at the Cedar Key Community Center, Sixth and F Streets, Cedar Key.
    The January speaker will be Mrs. Catharine Hobday, one of the assistant light keepers who served at the Cedar Keys Light Station on Seahorse Key from 1873 until 1879. Mrs. Hobday, portrayed by Toni Collins, will entertain the audience with highlights of what early service in the U.S. Lighthouse Service was like for the lighthouse employees.

    Branford Camera Club meeting
    The Branford Camera Club will start off the new year with a meeting at 7 p.m.  The group will be meet at a new location, Cuzin’s Restaurant, on U.S. Highway 129 across from Scaff’s Market in Branford.  Come about 6 p.m. to join members for dinner before the meeting.

    Cedar Key Book Club
    All are welcome to the book groups.  Bring a friend.   
    The Book Bunch will meet at 1:30 p.m., at the Cedar Key Library’s top floor meeting room.   
    Tea Obreht’s “The Tiger’s Wife” will be discussed.  Subsequent books will be selected at this January meeting.

  • January at the Cedar Key Arts Center includes ongoing classes and salons, as well as several one day workshops and a gallery opening.
    January’s Gallery will be filled with cozy quilts. This exhibit is open to the community and ready to hang quilts are due at the Art Center by Jan. 3 at 5 p.m. Photographer Christian Harkness will be featured in the Members Gallery. Gallery Reception is Jan. 7, from 5-7 p.m.
