    There will be a costume contest at Suncoast Credit Union on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. Registration opens at 5:30 p.m. Eligible age groups are: birth to 3 years old, 4-8 years old, and 9-12 years old.

    Otter Springs has Nightly Screams

    At Otter Springs Campground the ForVets, Inc. hosts the Nightly Screams Haunted park on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 per person at the gate.

    Ride to Provide

    The 11th Annual Ride to Provide, a law enforcement escorted motorcycle run through Levy County, will be on Saturday, Oct. 24. There is no fee to enter but donations will be accepted on behalf of ARC of Levy County, a center for challenged adults.

    The event begins with registration, coffee and morning snacks at Bronson Middle High School. Southern Sisters Hospitality will be providing the early morning goodies.

Francis sends his private investigator to the fishing village of Cedar Key in the third installment of the Quint Mitchell Mystery series, where a relaxing visit with an old friend turns deadly.

    Friends of the Library

    The Cedar Key Friends of the Library will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 20. Light refreshments will be served. 

     At 7 p.m., the national touring guitar duo, Patchouli, will entertain with a guitar and vocal concert. This free celebration of music will be held at the Community Center.  It is Patchouli's third presentation in Cedar Key.

    • 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 27 – Cars should be removed from 2nd Street (Hwy. 24 to A) by 6:30 p.m. No parking on the section of B Street adjacent to the Island Hotel (access for Island Hotel guests only).

  • With the 51st Annual Spring Arts Festival just around the corner, Cedar Key businesses and residents are reminded of the following restrictions and road closures.

  • One of the big social events on the island during the winter months is the Cedar Key Woman's Club spaghetti dinner held annually at the Community Center. Folks turn out in droves for a down home meal of spaghetti, marinara sauce, salad, garlic toast and dessert provided by the island's finest bakers.

    But it is much more than a meal that brings them in the door, it's the social atmosphere as folks linger beyond the meal to catch up on what has been happening in the lives of the snowbird (winter) residents and locals' lives.

    Bluegrass at Manatee

    Folk and bluegrass vocal duet  Dick Staber and Judith Chasnoff. will perform March 7 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the amphitheater in Manatee Springs State Park, which is located near the canoe launch. Bring a comfortable lawn chair or use the wooden benches.

    This event is free with regular park admission of $6 per vehicle. The gate closes at 6 p.m. so please arrive early.  After exiting there is no re-entry.
