  • Community Calendar for the week of Feb. 2

    Friday
    Knitting Club to resume
    The Kona Joe’s Knitting Club will resume, beginning Feb. 3.  The club meets every Friday at 4 p.m. on the deck of Kona Joe’s Island Cafe on SR 24 and 6th St.  It’s free and all knitters are welcome.

    The Cedar Key Friends of the Library have the following events scheduled:

  • 26th spaghetti fund raiser set

    “This is our 26th annual Spaghetti Dinner, and it promises to be the best ever,” said Jane Moore, President of the Cedar Key Woman’s Club.
    Every year the Woman’s Club serves around 200 spaghetti dinners, and this is its biggest fund-raiser of the year.

  • CK Women’s Club hosting fund raiser for Fisher House

    The Cedar Key Women’s Club is fundraising for the Gainesville Fisher House.  Fisher House is a home away from home that will be built near the VA Hospital in Gainesville.  Many other states have a Fisher House, but this facility will be a place to stay for our veterans and military families receiving care at the Gainesville VA.  It will be 16,000 square feet, complete with bedrooms and living areas and kitchens on the neighboring property to the VA.  It will be available to those receiving medical care in the nearby VA facility.

    TDC to meet
    The Levy County Tourist Development Council will be holding its bi-monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan 26, at 6 p.m. at the Levy County Visitors Bureau, 620 N. Hathaway Ave., Bronson.
    The meeting is open to the public.

    Friday - Sunday
    Citrus County Fair  truck, tractor pulls
    The 13th Annual Truck and Tractor Pull, sponsored by the Citrus County Fair  Association will be at the fairgrounds in Inverness, located at 3600 S. Florida Ave. (U.S. Hwy. 41 South).

    The Lower Suwannee and Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuges are hosting a community discussion at the Cedar Key Public Library on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m.

  • Musical Weekend planned in Cedar Key – Jan 13 & 15

    Original singer-songwriters from Virginia, Nashville and Indiana will be coming to Cedar Key the weekend of Jan. 13-15 to help two local non-profit groups.
    Join in the fun as these award-winning musicians share their musical talents for a good cause.

  • Life of a Light Keeper

    The Cedar Key Historical Society will kick off the 2012 Monthly Coffee Program Series on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 10 a.m., at the Cedar Key Community Center, Sixth and F Streets, Cedar Key.
    The January speaker will be Mrs. Catharine Hobday, one of the assistant light keepers who served at the Cedar Keys Light Station on Seahorse Key from 1873 until 1879. Mrs. Hobday, portrayed by Toni Collins, will entertain the audience with highlights of what early service in the U.S. Lighthouse Service was like for the lighthouse employees.

    Branford Camera Club meeting
    The Branford Camera Club will start off the new year with a meeting at 7 p.m.  The group will be meet at a new location, Cuzin’s Restaurant, on U.S. Highway 129 across from Scaff’s Market in Branford.  Come about 6 p.m. to join members for dinner before the meeting.
