  • 4-H offers sewing camps

    What are you doing July 2 through 6?

  • Summer art program July 17-27

    A Children’s Summer Art Program at the Cedar Key Arts Center for 1st through 12th grade students is planned.
    Youth can learn from the experts about ceramics, drawing, sculpture, photography etc.
    Classes are from 9-11:30 am daily and there will be an exhibit of students’ work on Friday, July 27.
    Registration forms are available at the Cedar Keyhole, Chamber of Commerce or from Kathy Hudson at Cedar Key School.
    Enrollment is limited and deadline is June 112. There is a $20 materials cost, but scholarships are available, just ask.

    Pancake, sausage breakfast benefit
    The Levy County Tax Collector’s Office is having a benefit pancake breakfast for the Heddins Family from 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Levy County Courthouse.
    Proceeds will be used to help defray the medical bills for James & Michelle Heddins’ daughter Ashley. She is undergoing her fourth round of chemotherapy. The latest treatment is working, according to the family, and in coming months she will begin the stem cell transplant.

    Go Wild, go birding
    The Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge will be holding a free “Birds in Culture” at the Cedar Key Library on Thursday, May 10 at 10:30 a.m. in recognition of International Migratory Bird Day. May 12 is the day we celebrate our winged relatives on this earth. Enjoy the gifts they bring us through their beauty, their lilting songs, and the magnificence of their flight.

     Young Authors’ Conference
    The 23rd Island City Young Authors’ Conference will  take place at Cedar Key School on May 4, beginning at 8:30 a.m..  Michigan writer Lisa Wheeler will  be visiting. Wheeler has written many children’s books, including “Ugly  Pie”, “One Dark Night” and “Sailor Moo”.  During her workshop, she will share her  love of writing and the process of publishing a book.

  • Weight Management Support Group

    Please join us at the Cedar Key Arts Center either Friday mornings at 9 a.m. or Monday evenings at 6 p.m. for an  ongoing, very low-stress, low pressure weight management group.
    We are doing a little art directive (no, you don’t have to be an artist) and  having a goal setting/discussion.
    If you are managing your weight in a healthful way and neither need to lose nor gain weight, please come and share your experiences with us.
    There is no fee required at this time.

  • Panhandle Lighthouse Challenge: 5 lighthouses, 2 days

    On Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Florida’s coastline from Pensacola to St. Mark’s will step back into maritime history by staging the second Lighthouse Challenge.
    Five lighthouse: Pensacola Lighthouse, Cape San Blas Lighthouse, Cape St. George Light, Crooked River Lighthouse and St. Mark’s Lighthouse will be open to visitors.
