  • Community Calendar for the week of July 5

    Through July 31
    Raethka is Artist of the Month
    The Cedar Keyhole Gallery announced its Artist of the Month for July 2012 as Russell Raethka. Chiefland watercolorist, Raethka creates Cedar Key scenes that emote nostalgic thoughts of seaside living. His many works include wildlife along with remnants of weathered buildings and assorted cast-offs. His style is unique in it’s sharpness of detail as well as true to life colors. Russ will have all his latest paintings at the Cedar Keyhole during the month of July.

  • Celebrate the Fourth in Cedar Key

    Clamerica may be off to Washington, D.C. this year to carry the word about Cedar Key’s clams to the nation’s capitol on July Fourth, but things will not be dull in Cedar Key.
    The city is not sponsoring a fireworks show, but some residents will be putting on their own show and the morning will kick off with the annual Independence Day parade of vehicles and vessels.

  • Group kayak and picnic event set for June 30

    The Friends of the Lower Suwannee & Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuges will hold a group paddle and picnic in Cedar Key. All are welcome.
    Bring your own kayak or rent one in town. Bring a lunch and we will gather after the paddle at the Cedar Key Park to eat together.

  • Free Kids Photo Safari planned

    The Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge will host a Kids Photo Safari on Tuesday,  June 19, from 9-1 p.m. at Refuge headquarters for grades 3 – 9.  Digital cameras and nature journals are provided for the photographers to keep notes on what they see. Reserve your child’s camera now. Ten slots are available - and it’s all free.

    Summer art teachers needed
    The Cedar Key Arts Guild’s Summer Art Program Coordinators are wondering if there is anyone among you who might be interested in teaching a 2-1/2 hour (9-11:30 a.m.) workshop to children (either elementary or secondary level or both groups at different times) during the weeks of July 16-27. We still have six time slots to fill (three teachers if they will do both groups) and there is a small stipend involved.

  • Dolphin Project session set at Cedar Key library

    The Cedar Key Dolphin Research Project team will be hosting an informative session titled, “Past, Present, Future” at the Cedar Key Library on Thursday, June 14 at 5 p.m.
    Open to the public, those attending will meet Stefanie Gazda and the Dolphin Project Team as they talk about their past findings, goals for this research season and plans for the future.
    Light refreshments will be served.

    BACK Fighting Cancer golf tourney
    The Swinging for a Cure golf tournament is being replaced by a new tournament,  the BACK Fighting Cancer golf tournament to be held at the Chiefland Golf and Country Club.
    Proceeds will benefit BACK Fighting Cancer which in turn supports families in the Tri-County area who have a child who has been diagnosed with cancer.

  • Popular summer program returns as libraries go 'round the world

    Join area libraries for Fairy Tales and Bedtime stories from all around the world. We will listen to international University of Florida students, make crafts, play games, listen to music and enjoy snacks.
    Come to one event or all of them. Large groups welcome, but please notify us in advance.
    All events begin at 10 a.m.

  • Ryan is artist of the month

    Corrine Ryan has been carving, shaping, chiseling and punching leather for over 20 years. Her works range from three dimensional portraits to earrings and pet leashes. Her commissioned pieces include personal portraits as well as horse and pet scenes. Many of her cherished works are held in collectors’ galleries that have been added to over the years.
    Corrine will have her latest creations on display at the Cedar Keyhole throughout the month of June.
    Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
