Needy Family Project
Saturday, Feb. 25, from 1:30-5 p.m., the Fraternal Order of Eagles will be holding a fund-raising event promoting its motto: People Helping People.
For a $6 donation - which will help fund the group’s Needy Family Project - members and guests will partake in a Southern tradition of ham and split pea soup.
Carryout is available, otherwise stop by at 3rd and B Street to enjoy this worthwhile cause. For more information, call 543-9789.

Between the river and deep blue Gulf: The past and future of oysters in Florida’s Big Bend

The University of Florida IFAS Shellfish Extension Program and Florida Sea Grant invite you to a presentation at the Cedar Key Library on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The talk, by Dr. Jennifer Seavey, a landscape ecologist with the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville, will focus on the analysis of oyster reef changes over time in the Big Bend.

26th spaghetti fund raiser set

“This is our 26th annual Spaghetti Dinner, and it promises to be the best ever,” said Jane Moore, President of the Cedar Key Woman’s Club.
Every year the Woman’s Club serves around 200 spaghetti dinners, and this is its biggest fund-raiser of the year.

CK Women’s Club hosting fund raiser for Fisher House

The Cedar Key Women’s Club is fundraising for the Gainesville Fisher House. Fisher House is a home away from home that will be built near the VA Hospital in Gainesville. Many other states have a Fisher House, but this facility will be a place to stay for our veterans and military families receiving care at the Gainesville VA. It will be 16,000 square feet, complete with bedrooms and living areas and kitchens on the neighboring property to the VA. It will be available to those receiving medical care in the nearby VA facility.
