  • Civil War lecture Saturday at RV park

    On Saturday, Feb. 13, the Levy County Historical Society will present the second of three presentations about the Civil War in Levy County.

    The presentation is at 2 p.m. at the conference center of the Cedar Key RV Resort, 11980 S.W. Shiloh Road, Sumner.

    Everyone with an interest in the history and heritage of Levy County is invited to this free event.

    The presentation on "Salt — The Lifeline of the Confederacy" will be by Levy County Historian and author, Toni C. Collins.

    Thursday, Jan. 28 – The North Florida Marine Science Symposium and Big Bend Science Symposium will not be at the Library, but taking place at Community Center. On Thursday, the evening poster presentation, a catered event, is open to the public (with registration) and the Friday keynote presentation at 9 a.m. is open to the public. Those planning to attend the Thursday event are asked to register at sfrc.ufl.edu/nfmss.

    Food distribution

    On Tuesdays The Children’s Table truck will be parked at First Baptist Church, 749 2nd St., at noon for as long as they have food to give, approximately an hour or so

    Anyone is welcome! They ask for a suggested donation of $3.50, but they do not require it, just a hug or handshake will do. The donations help them to pay for fuel to service so many areas.

    Economic development board meets

    The Nature Coast Business Development Council is holding its regular monthly board meeting 3 p.m. Aug. 11, at the College of Central Florida, 114 Rodgers Blvd., Chiefland, in the conference room.

    Due to the membership of the NCBDC consisting of more than one member of the Levy County RESTORE Act advisory committee, this meeting will also serve as a meeting for the Levy County RESTORE Act advisory committee.

  • Opening reception for Leland Williams at Arts Center

    An opening reception for the Cedar Key Arts Center Gallery opening of an exhibit — Time & Tide — will be hosted by the center’s patrons on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m.

    The event is free to the public and appetizers, drinks and conversation will be available to all. Come share a little time with the art community at the Cedar Key Arts Center season opener.

  • Seahorse Key lighthouse open Saturday

    The Seahorse Key Light Station will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, with local historians, Lindon Lindsey and Toni Collins, on hand to provide visitors with the history of Seahorse Key and the Cedar Keys Light Station. 

    Come out and learn more about the interesting history of this little known jewel on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Hop on a water taxi from Cedar Key to the Lighthouse and learn about the history of the island.
