    Costume contest at Suncoast

    There will be a costume contest at Suncoast Credit Union on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. Registration opens at 5:30 p.m. Eligible age groups are: birth to 3 years old, 4-8 years old, and 9-12 years old.

    Otter Springs has Nightly Screams

    At Otter Springs Campground the ForVets, Inc. hosts the Nightly Screams Haunted park on Fridays and Saturdays starting at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 per person at the gate.

    October 24

    Ride to Provide

    The 11th Annual Ride to Provide, a law enforcement escorted motorcycle run through Levy County, will be on Saturday, Oct. 24. There is no fee to enter but donations will be accepted on behalf of ARC of Levy County, a center for challenged adults.

    The event begins with registration, coffee and morning snacks at Bronson Middle High School. Southern Sisters Hospitality will be providing the early morning goodies.

    Bluegrass at Manatee

    Folk and bluegrass vocal duet  Dick Staber and Judith Chasnoff. will perform March 7 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the amphitheater in Manatee Springs State Park, which is located near the canoe launch. Bring a comfortable lawn chair or use the wooden benches.

    This event is free with regular park admission of $6 per vehicle. The gate closes at 6 p.m. so please arrive early.  After exiting there is no re-entry.

    Friends of the Library

    The Cedar Key Friends of the Library will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 20. Light refreshments will be served. 

     At 7 p.m., the national touring guitar duo, Patchouli, will entertain with a guitar and vocal concert. This free celebration of music will be held at the Community Center.  It is Patchouli's third presentation in Cedar Key.

    Thursday, Nov. 12

    Veterans Day parade in Chiefland

    The 2015 Levy County Veteran's Day parade will be in Chiefland on Nov. 12, at 4 p.m.

    Military, units, clubs, groups and rolling military vehicles will start marching from Chiefland Middle High School at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27A and U.S. Highway 19 and head south on US 19 to Trailhead/Train Depot Park in South Chiefland.

    At the end of the parade, veterans will be honored and a lunch with food donated by individuals and businesses will be served.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    Turkey Shoot

    The Suwannee River Shrine Club is hosting a turkey shoot on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, from 1 - 3 p.m. The event will be held at the club on State Road 26 north of Fanning Springs.

    The cost is $3 per shot and the winner will receive a free turkey.

    Divine Mercy Thrift Center

    The Divine Mercy Thrift Center, located on the grounds of St. John the Evangelist Church, 4050 N.W. Highway 27A, is now open Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Sales go toward feeding the needy in the area. Donations are also accepted.

     The Bronson United Methodist Church will open a thrift shop Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the back building on Capital Street.

  • Seahorse Key Lighthouse open Valentine's Day

     Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge will host an open house on Seahorse Key Saturday, Feb. 14 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.  Enhance your winter visit by getting outdoors into the spectacular Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge. Bring your camera, step up the stairwell to the tower, walk along the beach and take in Mother Nature.  Touch tanks and exhibits will be provided by co-hosts, University of Florida’s Seahorse Key Marine Research Lab.
