Some folks might say Brian Smetana, 19,  just had a bad weekend. The Otter Creek resident is in Levy County Jail after being arrested twice — once on a charge of shooting into an occupied dwelling and, the second time after being found naked in the bedroom of a 15-year-old — in less than 24 hours.
According to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release, Smetana's escapades began Saturday evening when James George, a relative of the recently deceased owner of Hershel's Quick Stop in Otter Creek, decided someone might attempt to break into the store so he spent the night in the store. George told deputies he heard glass breaking three times and saw Smetana running toward the business armed with a fence post.
Smetana hurled the fence post through the window and George, armed with a .44-caliber pistol gave a verbal warning and then fired one round. After the shot was fired, Smetana ran off. He was located by deputies at his residence in Otter Creek.
Smetana told Sheriff's Investigator Roger Bell the shot out the store's glass three times with a BB gun followed by tossing the fence postt through the glass door. Smetana said he had no intentions to enter the store but was angry that his mother was terminated from the store, The teen told investigators he was surprised someone was inside the store.
Smetana was arrested and freed after posting $15,000 bond on Saturday.
On Sunday, the sheriff's office received a 911 call from a Cedar Key area mother of a 15-year-old child who reported finding Smetana — who was naked — in her daughter's bedroom.
The mother held him at gun point until deputies arrived on the scene.
Smetana told investigators that he and the girl had been having sex for about two months. Smetana was then arrested for lewd and lascivious sexual battery on a child.
