Cedar Key varsity volleyball placed fourth in the field at Bronson tourney, but earned the satisfaction of playing above their heads and challenging bigger teams.

The Sharks fell to Bronson 2-1 in the first round, then 2-0 to Williston. In the first match, Cedar Key shocked Bronson by coming out strong and outlasting the Eagles 25-22 in the first game. The Cedar Key team is small, but stocked with leaders, starting with seniors Samantha Beckham, Jordan Watson and Michelle Dimaggio and bringing back veterans Caely Hibbits and Miranda Haire. Head coach Cheryl Allen had to dig into the middle school squad for seventh-grader Brooke Allen to supplement the Sharks' very short bench, and Allen made it worth the reach.

With this sort of showing against Williston and Bronson, both perennial contenders in their districts, Cedar Key will be able to represent very well in their own schedule this year.
