"If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand." (Psalm 37:23-24 NIV)

Around the world, in homes where the teenagers already own fancy automobiles, they seldom if ever concern themselves with how much their parents paid for their ride, or how much of their income is spent on insurance or gasoline. In some other cases those about to graduate from high school have been steadily working at a part-time job since they were 14 or 15, and if they have a car it is probably an old clunker that grandma didn't need any more. At least these kids who are helping pay their way understand how big a bite gasoline takes out of their meager pay.

Those who are born with the proverbial silver spoon in their mouths may go on to study at some prestigious world-class university and learn to practice self-discipline and turn out to be good people with a higher education. Many of these spoiled ones are more than likely to need constant spoiling well into their forties before they realize life really doesn't owe them anything.Hopefully, they will take full-advantage of a second chance and begin to think for themselves and work hard to make their own lives count for something.

High school counselors have opportunities to help steer young people in a good direction for an interesting and rewarding career. If your counselor was always too busy with other kids, or you just like to do things on your own, there are still some excellent resources that will assist you in formulating a positive plan for the first few years out of high school. One such resource that includes many links to much other helpful information is, http://mappingyourfuture.org/PlanYourCareer/

Students graduating from High School in Florida have many options that are not so plentiful to young adults in most other states. This state is one of America's largest populated states, and even in an economic slump, there are many job opportunities that are crying out for someone to come and fill out an application. Investigate the possibilities for a career or college studies at Florida's own site: http://www.facts.org/cgi-bin/eaglec?MDASTRAN=SW-HMMNE00 There you will find current links to just about any career or education opportunity that you might be considering or dreaming about.

Before you just settle for that job washing dishes or cleaning rooms and give up on your dreams to conquer the world and retire by age 30, why not contact a few of the Fortune 500 companies directly. Most of them have some type of presence in the state of Florida. They are always looking for bright, energetic, tenacious, hard-working and motivated people to help keep their companies growing. Even in such slow times, these companies are still looking for that certain individual who will come in with the confidence and dynamism of youth and help the managers turn their operation back to a more aggressive stance in the marketplace.

If you are the adventurous type and are looking for an exciting and rewarding career for a few years, you might want to investigate the many opportunities that the U.S. military offers young people. In the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or the National Guard, many people enjoy serving their country while they discover hidden talents and learn valuable skills that will transfer to the civilian world.

Some young people find great satisfaction in spending some of their early years after high school doing charitable work through organizations like the Peace Corps or the Red Cross, before they settle down in a career track. Many young adults have opportunities to participate in mission trips with their church group. Many youth camps in countries like Ukraine are conducted completely by young people right out of high school. By giving yourself to some worthy cause like helping poor children, your eyes will open up to even greater vistas for your life's work.

Hopefully, we will have some young people among us who will have a burning desire to prepare themselves through study and a disciplined life to serve as preachers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is always a place reserved for the sincere person who will forsake many other opportunities in favor of serving the Lord through Gospel ministry. The world is eternally lost without the hope that comes through faith in Jesus Christ. In order for people to have faith, they must be taught the truth that sets us free from sin. Here is the way the apostle Paul expressed this need, "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:14-15 NIV)

Whatever choice you make after graduation, the highest satisfaction will come to you in this life if you devote yourself to serving other people. Even if you investigate the job offerings at Cisco Systems, Inc. for example, and get hired on, then through hard work and good breaks become a product manager, you will later realize that you got there because you devoted yourself to serving others. Nearly all jobs are ultimately about serving people. The service you provide may have something to do with a tangible product or some intangible idea.
