Happy late Independence Day to all my fishing friends. What a great weekend here on the island — good friends, good families and some dang good fishing. Kinda sums up how our island takes care of a holiday weekend.
I had a couple of cool groups this weekend. Redfish was the biggest target, since our trout fishing is kinda slow. We did boat redfish all weekend with many oversized fish. Most all fish were caught with mullet.
Our best trout reports are coming from out off the deep flats. Fishing all the deep drops that are adjacent of the channels. We use soft plastic worms. I try and find an edge that seems to be holding bait. Those areas are full of ready to catch trout.
The hotter part of the day seems to slow down the feeding quite a bit. Early mornings and late afternoons are the ways to handle fishing in the summer. Also trying to fish in moon phases that bring a good movement of water flow. Thus making bait movement and warmer water a better feeding scenario.
“Fish hard or stay home.” that’s the words of wisdom for fishing the summer. C’yall on the water.
