The drive to Stuff the Bus with school supplies for students will be taking advantage of tax-free weekend as the Levy County Schools Foundation and Morriston Baptist Church's Band of Brothers set up collection stations inside stores. The collection pens, pencils, erasers, colored pencils, paper, pocket folders, spiral notebooks, crayons, permanent markers, washable markers, highlighters, dry erase pens, rulers, index cards, Post-it notes, scissors, washable glue, glue sticks, Kleenex, hand soap, sanitizer, binders and backpacks is an annual back to school ritual in Levy County. Volunteers annually staff the collection points and all the supplies will be taken to the Foundation's offices in Bronson for sorting and distribution. The collection of the supplies helps students whose parents may not have money to purchase supplies for the coming year and teachers who may have to pay for classroom supplies out of their own pockets. All collected supplies will be distributed among the schools and classrooms, for use by Levy County schools students and staff. This year's collection will be on Aug. 13-15 in the following stores: Bronson — Dollar General Cedar Key — Dollar General Chiefland — Walgreen’s, Dollar General, Walmart Inglis — Dollar General Williston — Walgreen’s and Dollar General Cash donations are also welcome and will be used to bulk purchase supplies. Cash donations can be made at Capital City Bank, Drummond Community Bank, and Perkins State Bank at the drive-through windows. All donations are tax deductible.
