Last month more than 100 people brought blankets and lawn chairs to City Park at sunset for the inaugural showing of Movies in the Park. The crowd was treated to a free family-friendly feature film shown outside in the naturally beautiful theater of Cedar Key.
As word gets out, organizers expect even more people to attend this month’s family entertainment feature film June 20 at sunset, 8:15 p.m.
Barely a month old, Movies in the Park has seen great success with sponsors lining up to cover the cost of the monthly movies through February. More sponsors are needed to ensure that future films remain free to the community, according to a press release from the Movies in the Park Committee.
Movies in the Park is a community effort to provide family friendly entertainment. The free films are presented by the City of Cedar Key and the Movies in the Park Committee which is composed of Andrea Dennison, Vanessa Edmunds, and Grace Register. Equipment for the outdoor showings was privately purchased by Commissioner Scott Dennison. Volunteers set up and take down the equipment and ensure that the park is returned to pre-event conditions or better.
Typically, the movies are shown the third Saturday of each month. Refreshments, consisting of popcorn, candy, lemonade and sodas, are available for purchase. Refreshment proceeds go to benefit a local charity or non- profit.
This month’s film tells the story of a girl named Nim and the island that she inhabits.
Due to copyright laws the film title can not be announced. Copyright laws do allow the Committee to tell individuals the title of the film prior to the movie being shown. If you would like to receive information about the dates and titles of the movies sent to you, please send an email to: email@example.com.
Sponsorships are $150 and the sponsor receives 3 pages of advertisement in the movies pre-show. If you are interested in sponsoring a Movies in the Park event please contact Andrea Dennison at 543-6313.
