The Cedar Key varsity boys baseball team played against the Dixie County Bears on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Kit Riley, junior, hit the first home run of his high school baseball career and of the season. Although the Sharks fought hard, they lost by a score of 18-3.

At this point in the season, the Sharks have played seven games and have many more to come.

"Being on a team with these boys is an honor and privilege. As a Shark, I've learned so much about sportsmanship and teamwork, I hope to exhibit that throughout the rest of the baseball season." commented senior, Vince Bullard.

The team’s next game is against Meadowbrook on Thursday, Feb. 27. Come out and support the Sharks.

The boys started out strong with a 4-0 lead up to the second inning.

“It was a well-played game; we really worked together and pulled through for one another on the field and in the batter’s box. I am so proud to be a part of this team, and to be here for the first win!” said senior Alex Zografos.

Cedar Key's Lady Shark softball team dominated the Meadowbrook Lady Mustangs on Feb. 27, winning by the 10-run rule. They began with a rocky start, letting the Mustangs advance with a run, but they fired up their bats and started to rack up runs on the score board.

Lady Shark's pitcher, Ashlyn Allen, pitched a great game. With some mistakes in its defense, the Lady Sharks shook it off and fought hard for its win. The team plays again on Thursday, March 6, against Bronson at their field in Rosewood, at 5 p.m.

The Cedar Key Sharks participated in their first track meet last Thursday. The Sharks traveled to Chiefland, where they participated in a tri-meet only consisting of three teams: Cedar Key, Chiefland and Bronson. The Sharks participated in shot put, discus, high jump, long jump, triple jump, the 200, two mile, 4x100 relay, and the 4x400 relay. Some of the meet highlights included Brooke Allen placing first in high jump and the girls placed second in the 4x400 relay.

Senior Lauren Bartholemy said, “I’m so proud of the Sharks. We had a lot of middle schoolers step up to the plate to represent our school. We have our work cut out for us, but I’m certain that with hard work we can accomplish anything. I look forward to my final season of track and field.”
