After some rocky years forced  an RV park on State Road 24 to change hands, the new owner is seeing more business and will be installing 16 new spaces and a bath house to accommodate the uptick.

Cedar Key RV Resort, once planned as an “ownership” RV community by developer Walt McJordan, was acquired last fall by Florentine Recreation LLC of Fort Myers.

The RV park already has 83 spaces and the new units will bring the total to 99. All of the new spaces are on 3.79 acres of a 6.08 acre parcel at the back of the RV development. Because it is at the back of the development, it is not visible from SR 24 due to natural vegetation, but the staff analysis also provides for fencing.

The expansion was approved at the Levy County Commission’s Feb. 4 meeting as a special exception and included certain conditions, such as the requirement that the RV’s must not be tied down, blocked up or added onto in such a way as to render it immobile. This also disallows the location of “park models” which require building permits or permanent blocking.

The reason such permanent or semi-permanent installations are not allowed is because the development is in a flood zone.

The new spaces will also lack temporary and permanent storage facilities, nor is storage of boats or RVs allowed.
