The date for the public meeting in Cedar Key to explain funding stemming from the disastrous 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill was incorrect in last week's Beacon.
The correct date is tonight, June 13, at 6 p.m., at the Cedar Key Community Center. An incorrect date was supplied to the Beacon.
The purpose of the meetings is to inform residents about settlements stemming from the largest oil spill in U.S. history, and the RESTORE Act that was signed into law July 2012. RESTORE stands for Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunity and Revived Economics.
Money is being divided into several “pots” that are then distributed accordingly by rules set forth by the act. Some funding will go to counties directly or indirectly impacted by the spill, while other money will go to state funds to help with continuing restoration efforts.
