More than 100 people brought blankets and chairs to enjoy the outdoors and watch Eragon, this month’s featured Movie in the Park Saturday night at City Park.
The free event brought many visitors looking for family fun to the islands. Judging by the applause of the crowd prior to show time, a little less than half of the attendants came from out of town.
Movies in the Park is a community effort to provide monthly year round family friendly entertainment. Bug spray is also provided to make the experience more comfortable for all.
The films are presented by the City of Cedar Key and the Movies in the Park Committee which is composed of Andrea Dennison, Vanessa Edmunds, and Grace Register. Equipment for the outdoor showings was privately purchased by Commissioner Scott Dennison. Volunteers set up and take down the equipment and ensure that the park is returned to pre-event conditions or better.
The next free movie event will take place Saturday of Labor Day weekend. People are invited to dress up as pirates, princesses and fairies to participate in a mini-parade at 7:45 p.m. prior to watching a fantasy adventure about the beautiful princess Buttercup and the dashing Wesley who must battle giants, Sicilian pirates, a six-fingered count, a murderous prince and villainous rodents of unusual size in his quest for love.
Due to copyright laws the film title can not be announced. Copyright laws do allow the Committee to tell individuals the title of the film prior to the movie being shown. If you would like to receive information about the dates and titles of the movies sent to you, please send an email to: email@example.com.
City Attorney David Coffey sponsored July’s show. Many people have already committed to sponsoring upcoming movie events, according to Andrea Dennison, but more sponsors are needed. Sponsorships are $150 and the sponsor receives three pages of advertisement in the movies pre-show. If you are interested in sponsoring a Movies in the Park event please contact Andrea Dennison at 543-6313.
