McKinney home named Garden of the Month

-A A +A

The Jan. 2013 Cedar Key Garden Club Garden of the Month goes to Mac McKinney at 12751 Hodgson Avenue.

Mac’s experience in landscaping is very evident in his beautifully landscaped garden. According to Mac, it definitely is a work in progress, and when you talk with Mac, you realize it is a labor of love.

Mac seems to know each plant personally. As you drive up to his home, you are greeted by beautifully terraced flower beds with a host of various blooming flowers. Natural beds on both sides of the elegant entrance are anchored by coastal oaks. Some, but not all, of the plantings include assorted ferns, wild lilies, various types of palms including a Bismarck Palm, confederate jasmine, different colored crotons, hummingbird and butterfly plants, red and yellow rose bushes, ginger plants, cat whiskers, salvia – including red, white and purple plants – ground orchids, various ground covers including yellow, blue, orange and firecracker delphinium.

These are just a few of the numerous and varied plants in Mac’s fascinating landscape. It is truly a beautiful work of art.
